YOU’RE IN IT FOR THE LONG HAUL: TIPS TO SURVIVE A LONG FLIGHT

There will come a time in your life where you will have to go on a long flight and successfully get through. Be it traveling for work, for someone’s wedding, moving to the other side of the world for an education, or simply because you want to see the world, keep in my mind, my friend, your time will come. And, it might nearly kill you—what it with the cramped leg space and the bland food and if you’re unlucky, the crying child next to you. There are a lot of things that can go wrong. But there are also a lot of things you can do right. Here are some of those things that will help you through the turbulence.

  1. Wear Something Comfortable: As tempted as you might be to imitate airport fashion, we strongly advise against it. The secret to surviving a long flight is comfort. So, put on some loose-fitting layers, stretch out, and get cozy. You’ll love it.
  2. Keep Your Blood Flowing: Pressurised cabins usually mean headaches, fatigue, and nausea; sitting in the same position for hours–muscle cramps and sore limbs. So, every once in a while, stretch, feel your joints crack, and take a walk down the aisle.
  3. Choose your Flight Entertainment Wisely: There are many things you can do on a long flight. You can binge-watch television, work, read, listen to music, write your novel. So, make a list before you board, so you’re prepared. Charge all your devices. And make sure you rotate through those interests to keep you don’t tire yourself out and give yourself a headache.
  4. Sleep, Sleep, Sleep: Are you an overworked employee going to a new country every week trying to close another business deal? Are you a tired mother? Are you an exhausted student who hasn’t gotten their eight hours of sleep in the last year? Or are you a globe-trotter who wants to be ready to sightsee as soon as the plane hits the runway? Whoever you are, you probably need sleep. And the best way to get through a long flight is to catch up on it. Put in some earbuds or noise-canceling headphones and become dead to the world. Who is stopping you?

Well, this is it. It is the guide that’s going to get you through a long flight. Happy flying!
